We had the opportunity to go to NY last summer and visited museums and historical sites.
The public library is a beautiful place. Lots of ornate carvings, mural painted ceilings, and aritfacts. Some rooms are for public use, reference only, and other rooms are for museum pieces.
There is one high security room with historical paintings of political figures on the wall and two display cases. A security guard is near the cases at all times. In one case is the Gutenberg Bible, and in the other are the original stuffed animals that inspired 'Winnie the Pooh'. We were not allowed to take photos in that room.
Wow, what a library! I am going to have to put it on my list of places to visit.
